Topeka, KS 66612 * Phone # 785-215-6633 Fax # 785-290-4734 In 2002, the dream of “Field of Greens” was turned into a reality. Being life long residence of Topeka, our family can remember how magical it was to go downtown to shop and eat. Downtown has always had a special place in our hearts and we decided that we wanted to be part of making downtown prosper again. Over the years, downtown has learned the brutal lesson that there are other places you can go to do business in Topeka, but for us, we didn’t want our business to lose the warm feeling you get by being downtown. The history is amazing, the buildings are historic, and just about everywhere you go has a cool story waiting to be revealed. In our experience, all of the other downtown merchants chose their locations for more than just making a buck; it’s about existing in the heart of their city with a loyalty that no chain establishment can touch, no matter how difficult that challenge may be.
When we had the opportunity to open another business, we didn't have to give it a second thought. We knew it was time for us to expand, however we disagreed on what we should do. Our family has always been incredibly creative and anyone who knows us knows that the Schultz family has never done anything normal. We knew we wanted high quality food, convenience items, lottery, and a place to go to hang out with friends and co-workers. We also knew we wanted to serve premium coffee but didn’t necessarily want to be classified as a coffee shop. How do you figure out what downtown town needs? You ask!!! “The Break Room” took four years in the making, asking people what they want and designing a concept that would work to supply it. When we were little we would visit our grandparents in the big city of St. Benedict, KS, population 100 people and 3000 cows. After we went to church we would stop by the local grocery store/bar to pick up groceries and candy. On one side you could get groceries and on the other side you could sit at the bar, shoot a game of pool, play penny poker, drink a beer or a bottle of soda. Of Course, as a kid, we liked the big candy counter. If they took us to Seneca we would also visit the local drug store and get two scoops of ice cream at the soda fountain. When grandma didn't feel like cooking we would head to the local neighborhood pizza parlor. We took your ideas and our small town childhood experiences and combined them into one big metropolitan concept, “The Break Room.” We hope our innovatively swank atmosphere will be talked about as much as the water faucets on the wall at “Field of Greens”.
Our family invites you to join us in experiencing something Topeka has never seen before, “The Break Room.” |
